We are looking for a Head of Engineering (Python-django, React, Postgres) who wants to be part of the core team developing the business strategy and then owns connecting that strategy to technology.

Benny is on a mission to change that by empowering employees of public companies to unlock the value in their Employee Stock Purchase Plans (ESPP) - a benefit that amounts to "free money" in the pockets of employees. Unfortuanetly, the benefit is complex so understanding and managing it along with not having the cash to pariciptate keeps employees on the sidelines.

Unfortunately, the complexity of the benefit makes it hard for employees to understand and manage it. Additionally, ESPP participation requires setting aside funds, a challenge when extra cash is scarce for many.

That’s where Benny comes in. We are an employee-finance startup that connects employees with the cash they need so they can unlock financial gains. We care about breaking down financial barriers by providing intuitive and accessible tools so we can be the best partner possible to our users.

Mission

Benny has found success with our core ESPP loan product: we’ve demonstrated demand and high levels of customer retention. We now need to expand our offerings beyond the loan product and to develop a more in-depth relationship with our users.

The Head of Engineering's mission is to lead within the company by driving new product development and delivery, and playing a big role in shaping the product vision.

What You'll Be Doing

• Being a part of core leadership and helping to shape our stack, processes and culture
• Building a consumer-facing finance application from the ground up
• Leading a team of 2 engineers
• Collaborating with the non-technical team on cross-functional work
• Getting into the code yourself - 60% hands-on, 40% technical leadership
• Partnering with the CEO to define and execute the product roadmap
• Defining and implementing engineering best practices and processes to improve team efficiency and productivity
• Conducting code reviews, identifying and resolving technical issues, and ensuring code quality and scalability
• Helping drive sound technical decision-making and leading technical conversations with other team members

Qualifications

• Background in one or many of the following: consumer-facing fintech tools, consumer finance, lending, building for financial institutions (credit unions / community banks)
• 7+ years of experience in software engineering roles
• Minimum of 2 years of experience managing or leading a team of engineers that have developed a product from 0-1
• High levels of empathy, self-awareness, trust-building, and interpersonal skills
• Motivated by positively impacting users
• Comfortable with change and ambiguity: you enjoy figuring out what needs to be done and setting appropriate deadlines and milestones to advance business objectives
• Embrace a 0-1 mindset with a strong sense of ownership. Speak up, collaborate, and make an effort to build an engaged team.
