THE OPPORTUNITY

At Kipsu, our Platform Engineers possess technical skills in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, observability, automation, and developer tooling. You'll use your technical and people skills to work with our development teams to build the systems that smoothly deliver work from the development phase to a stable and secure production environment. We host our systems on AWS, and practice immutable infrastructure, infrastructure as code, and configuration as code. We also believe in shared responsibility for the health, performance, and success of our systems.

As a Senior Platform Engineer at Kipsu, your skills and experience will help us grow and develop our internal developer platform. You'll have the opportunity to identify gaps in the platform and the freedom to add capabilities to fill those gaps. Part of our platform is us — our knowledge and experience, and sharing that with other engineers and the rest of the company — and we are open to candidates with all sorts of backgrounds. Platform Engineers may also lead regular working groups in security, database, infrastructure, front-end technologies, or any other area of expertise, to continuously and proactively improve our practices in those areas.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Give input into the company's technical strategies and act as an individual contributor in the following areas:
-Cloud infrastructure
-System monitoring and alerts
-Performance monitoring and testing
-Architecting and supporting our continuous integration and deployment pipelines
-Infrastructure and network security
-Overall architecture of our systems as a whole
  • Contribute to the design and development of projects from conception to delivery, managing expectations and communicating appropriately throughout
  • Assist with planning and monitoring costs of hosting and scaling our systems
  • Provide input and feedback on requirements, technical designs, and code changes, especially in the following areas:
-Cloud architecture, new service design, interservice communication, and resiliency
-Configuration
-New infrastructure & changes to existing infrastructure and networking
  • Contribute to designing and refining the development processes and workflows used by Engineering to promote efficiency and reduce friction from development through deployment
  • Foster and promote a collaborative culture of learning on the overall Engineering team
  • Create technical documentation, seek feedback, and engage with peers for input
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or incidents of system instability
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • 4 years or more of work experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, Systems Administration, and/or Software development
  • A “continuous improvement” mindset — working independently to improve both yourself and the way Kipsu operates
  • Technical communication skills — ability to interface, collaborate, and partner effectively with other Kipsu teams across the company
  • Ability to break down complex problems and projects into smaller pieces
  • Resourcefulness — ability to research and answer own questions and face ambiguity, using creativity to tackle problems with non-obvious solutions
  • Experience utilizing Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud computing platforms
  • Knowledge of automation tools and techniques, and how they can be incorporated into development and deployment processes
  • Proficiency with programming or scripting languages (we use TypeScript, Kotlin, PHP, and Python but are open to any experience)
  • Interest and experience with observability, monitoring, data querying and/or analysis
  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code or configuration-as-code tools like Terraform or Ansible
